Pigmentation ……….the causes….the only solutions!
Hello everyone…….in this blog we’re talking pigmentation or brown spots….or as some people call them…liver spots. Let’s start at the beginning….
WHAT CAUSES BROWN SPOTS:
• Sun exposure
• Aging
• Genetics
• Hormones
• Pregnancy
• Stress
• Improper skincare
• Menopause
• Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
• Liver disease
• Birth control pills
• Result of acne
• Result of harsh chemicals
WHAT REMOVES BROWN SPOTS/ PIGMENTATION :
Don’t spend your money on cheap over the counter products that promise the earth........I’ve done the homework for you......there are only certain procedures and creams that can really make a difference.
Chemical peel for brown spots
A chemical peel works extremely well for those with many brown spots. A chemical peel is a safe and effective form of treatment for many pigmentation problems. An acid is used to remove the surface layer of the damaged skin with light peeling. After the treatment, the dead skin peels away, allowing healthier, clearer skin to emerge. The acids typically used in this type of peel are natural fruit acids, otherwise known as alpha hydroxy acids. The chemical peel will lighten brown spots and even out other irregularities in
pigmentation to give the skin a more uniform color. The peel also results in softer, smoother and fresher looking skin. Usually a course of treatments will be recommended, not just a once off peel.
Microdermabrasion
Brown spots can also be lightened with microdermabrasion. The microdermabrasion procedure uses highly controlled vacuum and pressure to move microscopically abrasive aluminum oxide crystals over the surface of the skin. By gently abrading the skin with ultra-fine crystal particulates, microdermabrasion can reduce unwanted pigmentary changes and age spots. Microdermabrasion is absolutely painless. You will need regular microdermabrasion treatments to see improvements in the skin.
Laser therapy for brown spots
The laser therapy is the fastest and easiest way to get rid of brown spots, red spots and age spots. A laser generates and intense beam of light. The emitted light is absorbed by oxyhemoglobin -bright red blood cells carrying oxygen and melanin causing decomposition or destruction by heat of unwanted cells while leaving healthy cells intact. Laser is very effective at treating sun spots, but not that effective at treating other forms of pigmentation. You may need a few treatment for best results.(Treatment with the laser is more comfortable and requires less recovery time than some other treatment methods. In 70 percent of the cases the brown spots are completely removed after only one treatment.) – treatment with the laser is not comfortable however and can be quite stingy and can even be painful. It will also take a few sessions to achieve a noticeable improvement.
What about creams I hear you ask! There are loads of over the counter creams available that promise a miracle in a jar……be careful…..the beauty industry is unregulated leading to many an inflated claim of instant results.! Removing brown marks takes time!
The following list is a list of cosmeceutical products that are available in the Eastern Cape and which have been proven to work on brown spots.
Skintech Blending and Bleaching Cream
Lamelle Luminesce Cream
Filorga Depigmenting Cream
Beaute Pacifique Tyrostase Cream
Iklen Melano-Expert
It is also very important to wear a high factor sun protection every day, come rain or shine as UV rays are present every day and can penetrate through clouds and glass. You will also need to re-apply regularly for all day protection.
